Fireflies in the summertime are a delight and I remember running around catching them as a kid.  Unfortunately we don’t get those here in the UK.  But these amazing photos by Japanese photographer Tsuneaki Hiramatsu show why they’re so magical.

I’ve got a son but as a girl and techie myself, I think it’s vitally important that girls are equally encouraged to develop math and science skills from an early age.  The Wandering Scientist has a great discussion about “girly” toys that can build these skills and the recent Lego controversy.
