Hello Autumn

The word “autumn” still doesn’t quite roll off my tongue.  It’s much more comfortable to say “fall” when describing the season.  But as the UK recently approved my latest visa application, I’ll guess I’ll be learning to say autumn more often.

But whether it’s autumn or fall, it’s a lovely time of year, possibly my favorite.  It’s marked by falling leaves, gorgeous rich color, crisp air, and pumpkin.  And this year, joy o joy, the Pumpkin Spice Latte has made its way to UK Starbucks.  So I treated myself to one just yesterday.

It’s a decadent treat but it’s like drinking in the season.

Sunflowers, the Happiest Flowers in the World

When I went on holiday to the Suffolk coast a few days ago, I hadn’t planned on checking anything off my Life List. But as we drove around the bend on a narrow country road in Suffolk, there it was. A gorgeous field of sunflowers all in bloom. A big bright yellow field of happiness.

The rest of the passengers humored me as we turned the car around and stopped so that I could take some photos. Life list item number 88, done.

P.S.  The Nikon was broken and in the shop for repairs so thank goodness I’m not a one camera girl.  I did get lots of Polaroid and iPhone shots.

Catching a Bit of Fresh Sea Air

For the past couple of days we’ve enjoyed a bit of the English seaside. Dipping our toes, just barely, into the cold, cold water.  There is something completely different about the English seaside compared to the beaches I frequented on the East Coast of America.  Besides the colder water and rockier shores, it’s the entire atmosphere, the quirky charm.  With its beach huts and arcades, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stepped back in time a bit.

But the sea is still the sea and I do so love to breathe in its salty spray and feel the sun beat down on my face as I wriggle my toes in the sand.  Ahhhhhh.

Hydrangea’s Quirky Color

And how about hydrangeas?  How quirky (and brilliant) are they to be able to change color based on the soil in which they’re planted?

What color is your favorite?

I am now going to see if I can fit the word “quirky” into every post this week…

Little Shop of Quirky

Window Shopping

I love to look in the window of this shop in town. It’s always filled with the quirkiest, most colorful stuff. Like, who doesn’t need to carry around their hot beverages in a thermos like that?
