Quality Time

It’s easy to get caught up in the go, go, go and forget to just stop and enjoy.  To soak in a moment of time and be thankful to sit and share a burger and a milkshake with the most amazing little person in the world (I am just a bit biased of course).

Being the Big Spoon

I’d be lying if I said that I was thankful for the interrupted sleep patterns characteristic of a parent with young children.  We’ve had our share of really early mornings and restless nights lately.  I need a good solid sleep to feel energized for the day ahead (who doesn’t?) and when I don’t get that, well, I’ve been known to be a bit cranky.

But, I’d also be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy snuggling in bed with my little man late at night or early in the morning when he just needs a hug and a little love to fall back asleep.  So I am thankful for those moments when he’s snuggled in my arms and when I get to be the big spoon.

Warmth

Because it’s already feeling like winter here in England and me, well I’m not a fan of the cold.  No, not at all.  But a nice puffy jacket, well that’s something to be thankful for.  It’s like you’re wearing a duvet.  And who wouldn’t want to snuggle up in a duvet all day long?

Public Transportation

I’m thankful that we live in an area with well-developed public transportation, specifically trains.  Because on the spur of the moment, for the cost of a Starbucks latte, we can go for a little train ride.  We don’t even have to go anywhere specific because it’s the journey that matters.

One Good Thing

One thing I’ve learned is that’s it’s really easy to focus on all the things that are wrong in your life.  And the more you focus on the things that are wrong, the worse life seems.

But, there is always at least one good thing, one positive thing to be thankful for, every single day.  And if you take a moment at the end of each day to reflect and think about that one good thing, life seems more full.  Maybe that one good thing is just what you need to sleep easy, to have sweet dreams, or to wake up the next day with a smile.

Some days my one good thing is something amazing, some days it’s something trivial.  What’s important is taking the time to write them down now matter how small.  Because when I stop and pay attention to the good things, I remember to be thankful for the abundance in my life.  Even if I’ve had a shitty day.

So this week, in this season of thanks, I’m celebrating some of my good things.

What’s been your one good thing today?
